31. That is how many elephants I have in my Chatham office. (I will count Sarnia’s another time.)
Other than being a super fun guessing game for kids – there is – yes – an underlying reason for the elephants. An easter egg, if you will.
Have you heard of the saying, “the elephant in the room”? Although the original saying comes from a fable about a man who goes to a museum and fails to notice the elephant in the room. It has more recently been used as a metaphor for a problem or risk that nobody wants to talk about. Today, the elephant in the room has become synonymous with mental illness. There have been campaigns and organizations named after it. I still think mental health and mental illness remain the elephant in the room- at home, at work, at school – we are aware of it, but we don’t talk about it.
Not here. The original logo was a girl dancing with an elephant. To me, it means that here, at the CO., we play with the elephant, we dance with the elephant, and we talk about the elephant. There is no judgment, no stigma, and no shame.
I guess there is, 31 to be exact – but there isn’t – an elephant in the room.
